As the cases of Covid-19 has starts to boom again in India to a deadly move, many of the states had imposed a strict lockdown in India. Goa from today also announced strict lockdown to breack the chain of infection which starts from 7 pm of April 29 (Thursday) to the morning of May 3 (Monday).
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant stated that the essential services and industrial operations will not be shut down during the lockdown.
Sawant said in his statement, "Lockdown would be imposed from Thursday evening 7 pm till Monday morning in the coastal state to break the chain of COVID-19 infection. Goa had been reporting more than 2,000 new infections on a daily basis this week"
The Chief Minister also said that the casual labourers should not be worried as the shutdown will be lifted on Monday morning and all business would be run as usual.
Weekly markets will not be allowed to function during the lockdown. Casinos will also remain shut.
Altone DCosta, a South Goa-based hotelier who owns a five-star resort at Benaulim, said he has temporarily shutdown the property due to low occupancy and also to avoid the Covid-19 spread. Out of 3,500 hotels registered with the state government, only 1,400 have been operating in the pandemic time.
