As flights from India will be banned by many of the countries due to COVID-19 surge. Australia announced the resumption of respiration flights from India to evacuate the Australians from India starts from May 15, 2021.
Australian government has decided to restart flights with one flight in 7 to 9 days. In that, nearly one thousand Australians will return home till June last. It is also said that Australians who are in most vulnerable conditions will be given priority during this time.
Starting May 15, the first flight will leave from India to Darwin with two other flights will be scheduled from India to the Northern Territory during this month. Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison had cancelled all the coming flights from India to further protect his country from the pandemic, which hits India worstly this time.
Australian government also announced a jail term and heavy penalty for those who attempted to break the travel ban by entering in Australia via some other South Asian countries.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison said, "The global Covid-19 pandemic continues to rage outside Australia’s borders and the temporary pause on flights continues to give our quarantine facilities time to reduce infection rates and reduce the risk of Covid escaping into the community. Closing our international borders and the use of quarantine for returning Australians has protected the health of all Australians during the pandemic and given us a way of life that is the envy of the world"
