Greece is one of the most sought after destinations in the world. The beautiful Mediterranean Sea has always been romanced by travellers from all over the world. Greece was one of the first destinations to reopen its doors for travel, and has now seen a boost in tourism.
The charming destination has booms on tourism in the month of May as many travellers leave their cities and towns for a memorable summer vacation.
According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Greece, international arrivals increased more than 25 times in the month of May. Last year the international arrivals number was 14237, while this year it is 383107, which is a significant increase in tourism.
Earlier last month, Greece introduced a series of rules for travellers looking to come for this year's summer vacation.
Greece relies heavily on tourism as a fifth of its economy depends on tourism, and it suffered massive losses during the lockdown last year. The pandemic had halted travel around the world, and countries imposed restrictions. Greece's international arrivals fell by 75 percent last year.
As we see countries around the world gradually reopen for travel in 2021, there is hope for the tourism industry of Greece and other countries as well. Greece is now experiencing an increase in tourism, and is also expecting a 50 percent increase in tourism compared to the previous year. Till May this year, the country saw a decline in air traffic, which was 48 per cent lower. But all this is expected to change.
