Gujarat is developing a world-class Maritime Heritage Complex, close to the Archaeological Survey of India in Lothal. It is about 80 km away from the city of Ahmedabad.
The new tourist destination is going to be an international tourist attraction that is all about the Maritime Heritage of India from the ancient times to the modern times.
The idea is to create an education with entertainment approach to this destination which will be of great interest to the visitors.
The National Maritime Heritage Complex is going to cover an area of 400 acres, which includes heritage Theme Park, National Maritime Heritage Museum, Lighthouse Museum, Maritime Institute, Eco-Resorts and more.
Union Culture and Tourism Minister Prahlad Singh Patel has said that it is important to bring all these together to showcase the cultural heritage. The Ministry of Culture has agreed to provide all support as a knowledge partner for the development of this project. Land transfer formalities have already been completed and environment clearance has been obtained regarding this project.
This is a first of its kind project which will showcase the rich and diverse maritime pride of the country. The great maritime heritage of the India will be celebrated internationally through this tourist destination.
