After the downfall in cases of the coronavirus, Indian Railways is increasing the number of special trains for the convenience of the travelling public, to provide trains for the movement of migrant workers and to clear the waiting list at various origin destination groups.
During Pre-Covid, on an average around 1768 Mail/Express trains were running daily.
About 983 Mail/Express trains are being operated daily till 18.06.2021 which is about 56% of the pre-covid level. The number of trains is being gradually increased as per the demand and commercial justification.
As on 01.06.2021, around 800 Mail/Express trains were in operation. During the period 01.06.2021 to 18.06.2021 Zonal Railways has been given permission to operate 660 additional Mail/Express trains.

It may be noted that Zonal Railways are advised to resume trains in a graded manner keeping in view the local circumstances, demand status of tickets and covid cases in the region.
