Indian Railways has decided to resume the services of 50 special trains that have been stopped due to the covid-19 pandemic. These special trains will resume operations from June 21, 2021.
The demand for travellers has increased in recent times. In view of the spurt in demand, the Railways took this decision.
Indian Railways has gradually increased the number of trains as per the passenger demand and commercial justification. As on Friday, passenger services from 800 Mail/Express trains have reached 983 Mail/Express trains. This is 56 percent of the pre-covid times. In view of the high demand, 660 additional Mail/Express trains have been sanctioned.
Some of the major special trains include New Delhi-Dehradun Shatabdi Express, New Delhi-Kalka Shatabdi Express, Chandigarh-New Delhi Shatabdi Express, Delhi Sarai Rohilla-Jammu Tawi Duronto, Kalka-Shimla Express, Lucknow-Prayagraj Sangam Express and Chhapra-Lucknow Junction Express.
Railways has also started a new summer special train which will run from Gorakhpur in UP to Bandra Terminus in Maharashtra from June 25, 2021.
