Government is in a mood to start passenger train services between India and Bangladesh will soon. According to reports, a train will run between India and Bangladesh from the Haldibari-Chilahati border.
This was recently disclosed by Tofiq Hussain, Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh in Kolkata.
Haldibari in Cooch Behar is located about 4.5 km from the India-Bangladesh International Border, also known as the 'Zero Point'. Also, Haldibari is located in Rangpur Division in Nilphamari District of Bangladesh about 12 km from Chilahati.
Tofiq Hussain along with High Commission Business Head Mohammad Samsul Arif and Siliguri Sonali Bank Manager Jabedul Alam visited Haldibari railway station and railway track. After analyzing the current scenario, Hussain said that he is very happy that soon the passenger train services between Chilahati and Haldibari will start.
This move will help in promoting tourism and trade of both the countries and will also help in their development. He said that both the countries have already given approval for running passenger trains between India and Bangladesh.
Bangladesh's Deputy High Commissioner in Kolkata, Tofiq Hussain, praised the Haldibari Railway Station saying that if the coronavirus situation normalizes in the coming days, they will also start issuing tourist visas.
