Antonov An-225, the world's largest cargo plane, was completely destroyed in an attack on its base at Ukraine's Hostomel/Gostomel airport.
The Antonov An-225 aircraft, often referred to as the 'Marya', is a 6-engined, 84-metre-long aircraft with 32-wheel landing gear that first took off in 1988.

Antonov has been famous for its enormous size since its inception. The fact that it can have six turbofan engines in its wings alone gives you an idea of its size. Its nickname, 'Maria', is the only way to accurately depict its shape in one word. In Ukrainian, the word means 'dream' or 'inspiration'.
It measured 84 meters from nose to tail. It was able to dwarf the tallest aircraft, such as the Boeing 777-9, 77-8, and the Airbus A340-600, which measured 76.7, 76.4, and 75.4 m respectively. The Lockheed C-5 Galaxy is the closest transport aircraft with a length of 75.3 metres.
Only the Hughes H-4 Hercules and the scaled composite Stratolaunch could compete with the aircraft's 88.4-metre wingspan. The maximum takeoff weight is 650 tons, while the cargo capacity is 250 tons.
