Swadesh Darshan Scheme is a Central Sector Scheme of the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, Government of India, with the objective of promoting, developing and harnessing the potential of tourism in India, here in Puducherry.
Several tourism projects have been inaugurated in Puducherry recently which will eventually give a new and improved look to the city.
The city's upcoming projects and those wishing to visit Puducherry can look forward to;
- Renovation of I Mandapam and dynamic lighting system at Bharati Park
- Development of pilgrim facilities and river bank ghat at Sri Gangai Vargha Natheswara Temple at Tirukanchi
- Development of Spiritual Park at Tirunallar Karaikal
- Development of Eden Beach at Chinna Veerampattinam.
Keeping in view the active tourism activities in Puducherry, it was decided to bring these projects as a next step towards adding to the already existing few better destinations and experiences. After the completion of these new projects, more tourists are expected to visit Puducherry.
Several plans are in the pipeline to develop Puducherry as an iconic spiritual destination. In fact, Puducherry has several spiritual tourism projects for Karaikal, Thirukancha and Yanam.
Plans are also underway to develop Franco Tamil villages at places like Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam. Also, towns like Dubraipet, Arikamedu, Veerampatinam, Kalapet and Yanam will come under these developmental projects.
