A new airport is being built in Navi Mumbai. The good news is that Navi Mumbai International Airport will be operational by 2024.
According to sources, Navi Mumbai International Airport will be operational from next year. Grand airport to be able to accommodate 90 million passengers by 2032! Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the airport would be well-connected to the city through various modes of transport, including the Mumbai Trans Harbor Link and the Metro.
Some important facts about the airport:
1) The airport is at Ulwe in Navi Mumbai in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
2) This world class airport will be constructed in four phases where the first two phases will be completed by December 2024.
3) This eco-friendly airport will be equipped with all modern technology.
4) Electric vehicles, solar energy and green electricity are other key features of the airport.
5) Another best part of the airport is its stunning lotus-shaped design, which is the national flower of India.
6) The airport is being constructed on 1160 acres at a whopping cost of Rs 16,700 crore!
7) By 2032, the airport will be able to handle 2.5 million tonnes of cargo.
8) Also this is the first time that a city will have two international airports.
It is learned that after the commissioning of this newly built airport, the congestion at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport has reduced a bit compared to what it is now.
